Resort in Romania reopens after virus restrictions were lifted

Romanians on Saturday prepared to escape the cities for the Black Sea coast, as lockdown measures imposed two months ago to curtail the spread of the coronavirus were partially lifted.

Romanians on Saturday prepared to escape the cities for the Black Sea coast, as lockdown measures imposed two months ago to curtail the spread of the coronavirus were partially lifted. The holiday resort of Mamaia, 250 kilometers (155 miles) east from Bucharest, braced itself for an influx of visitors desperate to enjoy the beaches and sea air.

Elena Petrea who celebrated her birthday on the beach with her family said she was happy she could enjoy her "freedom" again. With the state of emergency lifted, Romania has now entered a state of alert and some restrictions remain in place, like maintaining social distancing and wearing a face mask while indoors or on public transport. As of early Saturday Romania had reported 16,437 coronavirus cases and 1,070 deaths.Another local resident, Hristu Leonard, said that he feels free and can finally go outside for walk around the pier. Leonard was waiting from a long time to shred off someextra kilos that he had gained during the lockdown.
