A new shipment carrying 2 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Chile on Sunday. Health Minister Enrique Paris and China's ambassador to Chile Niu Qingbao, and Rodrigo Yañez, undersecretary for international economic relations received the shipment.

This is the sixth COVID-19 vaccine shipment arriving in Chile.

The doses will be distributed throughout the country and will allow the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, which began on March 3rd, to continue.

With this new shipment, the total number of vaccines, including those from Sinovac and Pfizer-BioNTech, received in Chile to date is more than 13 million.

The country on Saturday reported its highest daily count of 7,084 coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic despite widespread restrictions and progress on vaccinations.

Chile has given at least one vaccine shot to more than 29% of the population and both doses to 15% - far more than in other nations in the region.
