Minnesota: Two US lawmakers including Senator John Hoffman, Representative Melissa Hortman and their spouses were shot inside their homes in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Governor has described the attack on two democratic state legislators and state representatives Melissa Hortman and State Senator John A Hoffman as a “politically motivated” incident.

As per reports, Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark have died in the attack while Senator John A Hoffman and his wife Yvette were inured and are undergoing treatment.

Issuing a statement on the attack, US President Donald Trump said, “I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be targeted attack against state lawmaker adding such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America."

“Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place,” Trump further added.

The targeted killings took place at about 8 miles from Champlin and Brooklyn Park, north of Minneapolis. The attacker as per local media reports impersonated as police officer. A manhunt is underway to nab the accused.

“We must all in Minnesota and across the country stand against all forms of political violence,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz told media person in a presser.

The incident comes at a time when politicians across the country have faced harassment and attacks due to deep political divisions.

Speaking on the incident, a Democrat named Walz said, “We must all, in Minnesota and across the country, stand against all forms of political violence… Those responsible for this will be held accountable.”

According to two people familiar to the incident have identified the suspected attacker as 57-year-old Vance Boelter. Meanwhile, the police have recovered several AK-style firearms from the suspect’s vehicle as a massive manhunt is underway.
