The custom-built Land Rover hearse that will carry the body of Prince Philip to his funeral on Saturday at Windsor Castle was unveiled on Thursday.

The Land Rover Defender TD5 130 chassis cab vehicle had been a 16-year project for the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip made the final adjustments to the vehicle in 2019.

He asked for certain modifications over the years such as the vehicle being painted in military green as well as the "stops" that will keep his coffin in place.

The duke began the build in collaboration with Land Rover in 2003, and it was built at Land Rover's factory in Solihull.

The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place Saturday at Windsor Castle, with attendance limited to 30 because of coronavirus restrictions.

While it is a scaled-down service because of the pandemic, hundreds of servicemen and women from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force will take part in the funeral procession.

The Duke of Edinburgh's coffin will be taken to St George's Chapel at the castle.
