The UK's Chancellor Rishi Sunak said on Monday it's "absolutely safe" to shop at markets as the country loosens some of the social distancing measures.

Speaking at London's Pimlico market, Sunak said public life under the new measures is safe and that people should have the confidence to "go out there and get their life a little bit more back to normal."

The central UK government's latest easing of restrictions in England which came into effect on Monday allowed for outdoor markets to open, some children to return to school and people to meet outdoors in groups of up to six.

Sunak also said restaurants and pubs will hopefully be open at the beginning of July under the government's current plan.
