Washington: As Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin 's much awaited talks on the Ukraine war are set to take place today, Kyiv is fearing that the US President may agree to his Russian counterpart’s demands if the latter pushes for redrawing Ukrainian borders.
Zelenskyy’s administration is fearing that Donald Trump whose approach in the build of the peace talks has remained more calmer toward’s his Russian counterpart, may cooperate with Putin’s demands on re-drawing Ukraine’s borders, possibly on regions the Russians annexed during the 3-year-old war including Odessa and strategic Black Sea port.
On Monday, Trump informed that he will be speaking to President Putin concerning the War in Ukraine. "Many elements of a final agreement have been agreed to, but much remains. Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are being killed. Each week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, from both sides, and it must end NOW. I look very much forward to the call with President Putin," the US President wrote on Truth Social.
Trump had also said that they will be talking about power plants and how to go about dividing up certain assets that have already been annexed by Russia.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin told United States that Moscow welcomes US' efforts on bringing peace and ending the Ukraine war but they (Russia) is looking forward for a proposal which assures a long-term solution as it responded on 30-day ceasefire.
Responding after Russia's reaction on the 30-day ceasefire proposal, President Trump had said that Putin's feedback was promising but it was incomplete.
Ever since Trump has initiated efforts to bring peace, the US President has on many occasions favoured his Russian counterpart over Zelenskyy. Trump had said that it would be easy for them to deal with Putin compared over Zelenskyy who has been pressing on security guarantees and trying to play cards that he doesn't have and neither in a position to do so.
