Biden: US Faces Unprecedented Crises In History

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says the United States is facing a series of crises unprecedented in the country's history amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says the United States is facing a series of crises unprecedented in the country's history amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The former US vice president made the comments on Thursday at a metal works concern in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

"We have an economic crisis that's left almost 18 million Americans out of work, with some of the greatest pain inflicted on small businesses and communities of color. A national reckoning on the issue of racial injustice has long plagued the United States of America, long plagued our country has come on top of a widening economic inequity and a mounting climate crisis," Biden said.

It’s political turf the Republican incumbent once considered a clear advantage before the coronavirus pandemic curbed consumer activity and drove unemployment to near-Depression levels.

Launching an economic pitch expected to anchor his fall presidential campaign, Biden called for a $400 billion, four-year increase in government purchasing of U.S.-based goods and services plus $300 billion in new research and development in U.S. technology concerns.

An outline released by Biden’s campaign also touts his long-standing promises to strengthen workers’ collective bargaining rights and repeal Republican-backed tax breaks for U.S. corporations that move jobs overseas.

Biden also wants to capitalize on his union ties and win back working-class white voters who fueled Trump’s upset win four years ago.
