Shrimp and grits with a side of political conversation. At a Charlotte, North Carolina lunch table, there was unabashed support for President Donald Trump.

Addul Ali knows he's in the minority as a Black Republican.

"There's a modicum of truth to that unicorn thing but I think there's a lot more unaffiliated voters that lean right and the numbers dictate that," Ali told the Associated Press.

According to the Pew Research Center, in 2016, 81 percent of Black male voters cast their ballots for Hillary Clinton. For Black women, that number rose to 98 percent. But not for Kimberly Marshall.

"You got a president who is unapologetic, who believes what he believes. He's a businessman who believes in getting things done, who was never racist until he came down that escalator," she said.

In this battle ground state, Daela Fraser wishes the Republican party would do more to reach out to Black communities.

"I've never seen anyone from the right knock on my door and explain to me anything," Fraser said.

Trump has faced criticism for repeatedly saying he's done more for Black Americans than any other president. But this group agrees.

"Until somebody can give me actual evidence, proof and a policy that says Donald Trump is a racist, I don't believe it," Ali said.

Being Black supporters of President Trump, they're used to getting a double take and this lunch outing was no different, as a young Black couple, pulled up their chairs to listen and debate.

"I never seen three black Republicans. Never in my life," the man said.

Just weeks from election day, this group is banking on another four years.
