Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg congratulated Sanders on his showing at the Democratic caucuses in Nevada, but also stressed that Sanders brings polarization and division.

Speaking from a packed room at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, he said Americans should be mobilized as allies instead of adversaries.

"But before we rush to nominate Senator Sanders as our one shot to take on this president," he said, "let's take a sober look at what is at stake for our party, for our values, and for those with the most to lose."

"There is so much on the line, and one thing we know for sure is that we absolutely must defeat Donald Trump and everything that he represents in November."
