President Trump highlights Mideast policies and conflicts

U.S. President Donald Trump devoted part of the State of the Union address to foreign policy in the Middle East. He mentioned his administration's newly proposed Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, which Palestinians have already rejected. He discussed the battle against the Islamic State group.

U.S. President Donald Trump devoted part of the State of the Union address to foreign policy in the Middle East. He mentioned his administration's newly proposed Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, which Palestinians have already rejected. He discussed the battle against the Islamic State group.

He also pointed out that Carl and Marsha Mueller were in attendance. Their daughter Kayla was kidnapped, enslaved and later killed by Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The President also discussed the death of Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Hake, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2008. The president pointed out that the bomb was provided by Iran's top military commander, Qassem Soleimani. President Trump reminded the nation about the targeted drone strike he ordered in January that killed Soleimani.
