Sri Preston Kulkarni is an Indian-American member of the Democratic Party, who is breaking stereotypes with his unique way to contest for votes. Preston Kulkarni is running for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in Texas's 22nd congressional district.

Interestingly, Kulkarni and his team is grabbing all the attention for their ‘multilingual and multicultural campaign’ in which the team asks for people’s votes in 13 different languages including six major dialects spoken in India and a Nigerian lingo called Igbo.

In his election campaign, Kulkarni asserts that his multilingual approach to win the public support is one of the most unique strategies ever used, keeping in mind the massive diversity of ethnic minorities in Texas district. 40-year-old Harvard graduate Kulkarni seeks to change the attitude of the voters in the district by interacting with them on the ground level. The former U.S. foreign service officer went in the field targeting everyone from Chinese Americans to Indians, Pakistani Americans to Vietnamese, in order to win the support of the diverse suburban district that he hopes to represent in the upcoming elections.

Kulkarni’s website that goes by the name “Sri Preston Kulkarni for Congress” states the reason as to why he is contesting for election, saying “ the greatest danger to our country right now is not a foreign power, but the internal divisions in our society. That is why I am coming home to Texas to serve. I know firsthand that to push back the tide of fear, we must recognize the sources which are fanning the flames of resentment and defuse them, by offering a positive vision for the future that all groups can believe in”. His website also reveals that he speaks Hindi, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Hebrew, and Russian.

Apparently, his opposition contestant, incumbent Republican Pete Olson, calls him a “liberal Indo-American carpetbagger’. Kulkarni will be running in the general election on November 6, 2018 in Texas, United States, after advancing from the primary runoff on May 22, 2018. If elected, Kulkarni will become the first Asian-American ever to serve in the Texas congressional delegation.
