Police in the US state of Georgia has recently released a video of a baby who was found alive in a plastic bag in the woods earlier this month. The newborn girl who is temporarily called 'Baby India' was abandoned in the woods and was found by the cops struggling inside a plastic grocery bag.
On Tuesday, June 26, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FSCO) released parts of the footage from the body camera worn by the first FCSO Deputy on the scene, the night the baby was discovered, in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of the child.
The baby who was found on June 6 in Cumming, about 64 kilometers from Atlanta is believed to have been just hours old when she was discovered. As per media reports, residents in a nearby home stumbled upon Baby India when they checked out the noise of a baby crying coming from the secluded area.
Sharing the video on their official Facebook page, the sheriff's office said that it is continuing to aggressively investigate and to follow leads regarding Baby India. "As of today, we are still receiving tips from across the country on the possible identity of 'Baby India'", they wrote in the post.
In the video, the officer can be seen ripping open a plastic bag to uncover a crying baby whose umbilical cord is still attached. The infant, who authorities named India, can later be seen wrapping its hand around the finger of one of the deputies on the scene.
Updating on Baby India's health, the post stated, "We are happy to report that Baby India is thriving and is in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services."
"We are releasing parts of the footage from the body camera worn by the first FCSO Deputy on the scene the night Baby India was discovered, Thursday, June 6th, 2019. We release this footage in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of Baby India and to show how important it is to find closure in this case." the post further stated.
