The second-term Democratic governor from one of the most-contested presidential states said in a news release Monday, “Today, I am fired up to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States.”
Whitmer continued, “In Vice President Harris, Michigan voters have a presidential candidate they can can count on to focus on lowering their costs, restoring their freedoms, bringing jobs and supply chains back from overseas, and building an economy that works for working people.”
Whitmer had been mentioned as a potential Democratic presidential prospect.
“So Michigan, let’s go to work,” Whitmer said. “We cannot let Donald Trump anywhere near the White House. Let’s go!”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez hailed Biden's decision as "brave and dignified", noting his leadership in overcoming economic crises and supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression. Sanchez praised Biden's commitment to democracy and freedom.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described Biden as a close "friend" who had strengthened transatlantic cooperation and NATO while being a reliable partner. Scholz praised Biden's decision not to seek re-election as deserving recognition.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer respected Biden's decision and looked forward to continuing to work with him throughout the remainder of his presidency. "I know that, as he has done throughout his remarkable career, he will have made his decision based on what he believes is best for the American people," Starmer said on X.
There are five Indian-American lawmakers in the current House of Representatives — Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Shri Thanedar, Pramila Jayapal and Ami Bera whp all are Democrats.
Three of them – Khanna, Thanedar and Jayapal -- have endorsed Harris, 59, so far.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's reaction to the withdrawal of Joe Biden from the presidential race was one of effusive praise for Biden but had nothing to suggest that she had endorsed Harris.

But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges." The statement, however, stops just short of officially backing Harris for the top job.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged Biden's "tough but strong decision" and thanked him for unwavering support during Ukraine's defence against Russia's invasion. "We will always be thankful for President Biden's leadership. He supported our country during the most dramatic moment in history, assisted us in preventing Putin from occupying our country, and has continued to support us throughout this terrible war," Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed gratitude to Biden for his decades-long support of the Israeli people. "As the first US President to visit Israel in wartime, as a recipient of the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor, and as a true ally of the Jewish people, he is a symbol of the unbreakable bond between our two peoples," Herzog said in a post on X.
"I've known President Biden for years. He's a great man, and everything he does is guided by his love for his country. As President, he is a partner to Canadians -- and a true friend. To President Biden and the First Lady: thank you," reads Trudeau's post on X.
"Joe Biden has been the worst President in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been right there with him every step of the way," he said.
Republicans led by their vice presidential nominee Senator J D Vance have asked President Joe Biden to resign from his post after he decided not to seek re-election in November, saying his move to withdraw from the race is a clear admission that he is not "mentally fit enough" to serve as the commander-in-chief.
