US climate envoy welcomed by South Korea FM

U.S. climate envoy John Kerry met with South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong on Saturday as part of his trip aimed at raising global ambitions to tackle climate change.

U.S. climate envoy John Kerry met with South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong on Saturday as part of his trip aimed at raising global ambitions to tackle climate change.

He was greeted by Chung at the Foreign Minister's residence in Seoul, where they held talks ahead of a banquet.

Kerry arrived in South Korea after visiting China where he held two days of closed-door meetings with counterparts in Shanghai.

A climate change meeting has been called by U.S. President Joe Biden for next week.

Biden has invited 40 world leaders to the April 22-23 virtual climate summit.

The U.S. and other countries are expected to announce more ambitious national targets for cutting emissions and pledge financial help for climate efforts by less wealthy nations.
