A special gathering of the Catholic bishops will take place in the Vatican assembly on October 26, to decide whether Pope Francis should permit the entry of married men into the priesthood or make female deacons. The issues since times immemorial have been considered a taboo and the violation of the tradition by the conventional believers. 

The Vatican to calls for a drop

The vote will take place at the concluding meeting of the three-week "synod" which took place to discuss the issues and challenges being faced in the Pan-Amazonian region. During the meeting, the priests highlighted the various issues including the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, oppression of the tribal people residing in the Amazonian area, the misuse of power by the government and the decline in the number of priests.

Pope is addressing the concern 

As per media reports, the Pope will address all the issues mentioned within the document drafted during the ‘synod’. It is believed that the decision of the Pope will have consequences not just for the Amazon region or the tribal people but for the entire Roman Catholic Church. There were approximately 184 bishops who participated in the gathering and about 60 per cent of the bishop represented the nine Amazon countries. Since priests and people of different strata were present including the representative of the tribal people, the experts and the nuns who raised all the concerns faced by the regional people. The synod discussed issues like climate change, mercury-polluted waters, poverty, land-grabbing, and violence against women.

The final list of proposals will be sorted by the bishops

According to the procedure, the final list of proposals will be sorted by the bishops. Every proposal requires to win two-thirds of votes to be included in the document which will later be announced by the Pope. There are three main points that have dominated the discussion which is proven virtue, which is whether to allow married men to be part of the priesthood, especially in isolated regions like Amazon along with the sanctioning of the ministry of women.
