Rocket sirens blared across Tel Aviv on Thursday afternoon as three long-range rockets were fired from the southern Gaza Strip, marking the first such attack on central Israel in over five months.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), one of the rockets was intercepted by air defense systems, while the other two landed in open areas. Although shrapnel was found in Rishon Lezion, there were no reports of injuries or significant damage.

Hamas Claims Responsibility

The Hamas terror group took responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group’s military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said it had launched M90 rockets at Tel Aviv in response to “the Zionist massacres against civilians.”

The rocket barrage comes two days after the collapse of a two-month ceasefire, leading to the resumption of heavy fighting in Gaza. Israeli forces have since expanded their ground operations in the northern part of the enclave, alongside conducting multiple airstrikes on Hamas targets.

Evacuation Warning Issued in Southern Gaza

Following the attack, the IDF issued an evacuation warning for Palestinians in the Bani Suheila area of southern Gaza, signaling imminent military action.

Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, posted a map on social media showing the evacuation zone, calling it a “final warning” before further strikes. “Terror organizations are once again launching their rockets from within civilian areas. We have warned this area many times,” he said, urging civilians to move west to designated humanitarian shelters.

Renewed Ceasefire Talks in Cairo

Meanwhile, Hamas officials were reportedly expected to arrive in Cairo for negotiations on restoring the ceasefire. A Hamas official told Reuters that mediators had intensified their efforts to halt the fighting, though “no breakthrough has yet been made.”

Thursday’s attack was Hamas’s first strike on central Israel since October 7, 2024, the one-year anniversary of the group’s deadly assault that triggered the ongoing war.
