Amid the worldwide condemnation of the Hamas terrorists' barbaric atrocities on the Israelis on October 7, as a fight for Islam, the Global Imams Council (GIC), headquartered in Iraq has condemned Hamas’ attack on Israelis in the strongest terms on Sunday. Terming the act as ISIS-like terrorism carried out on Jewish, Christian and Muslim civilians in the Jewish State, the council issued a ‘Fatwa’ against Hamas. The council expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and also appealed to the international community to stand with the Jewish people in their struggle.
The GIC on Sunday issued a statement extending their support to the Israelis, who suffered a massive terror attack at the hands of cowardly Hamas terrorists, resulting in the killing of hundreds of innocent people including women and children. In their statement, they said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the barbaric and terrorist acts committed by Hamas against Jewish, Christian and Muslim civilians in the Jewish State.”
We stand with Jewish people in their struggle against Hamas' terrorism, says GIC
“We express our condolences to the families of the victims and urge the international community, represented by world and faith leaders, to stand with the Jewish people in their struggle against ISIS-like Islamist terrorism carried out by Hamas,” the council asserted.
The Global Imams Council, which is headquartered in the Islamic Seminary of Najaf, Iraq and consists of over 1,470 Muslim Imams and Scholars from all Islamic denominations, said that they have consistently stood against Hamas, its genocidal antisemitism and annihilationist ideology.

The GIC, while extending their support to Israel also made some clear points,
- The GIC stated that the council, all its members, and over 800 communities led by members worldwide, abide by the Fatwa issued against Hamas on March 9th, 2023, by the Islamic Fatwa Council. Charging Hamas with corruption and crimes against humanity, the council forbids Muslims from supporting, donating, joining or praying for the terrorist organisation.
- The council added that the GIC has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to Islamism in any of its variations and any individual, visitor, or worshipper found supporting Hamas in Mosques, Islamic Centers or institutions operating under the framework of the Global Imams Council will be publicly condemned, banned from the venue, and removed in coordination with the local law authorities.
- The GIC also condemned the extremist and violent rhetoric displayed at rallies taking place in Europe, Canada, USA, Australia and elsewhere, where flags of designated terrorist organisations are being raised and accompanied by genocidal chants against the Jewish people.
The council reiterated their commitment in combating all forms of Islamist extremism and terrorism.
