Washington: President Trump, in a ‘very good’ phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, briefed his Ukrainian counterpart about his conversation with Vladimir Putin and agreed on a partial ceasefire—a step toward achieving permanent peace in the region. Both leaders emphasised that all parties must continue efforts to make the ceasefire work.
Soon after his telephonic conversation with Zelenskyy, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social and said that he had a ‘very good’ call with Zelenskyy that lasted approximately one hour. Trump informed that much of the discussion they had was based on his talks with Putin, a day before, to align both the nations in terms of their requests and needs.
On Tuesday, Trump and Putin in their nearly two-hour-long phone conversation agreed upon halting strikes on energy and infrastructure facilities.
Putin backed the idea of halting attacks on Ukrainian’s energy infrastructure for 30 days and decided to release 23 seriously wounded Urkainian servicemen as a goodwill gesture.
Putin also conveyed to Trump that for a longterm peace to prevail in the region, the United States and its allies should stop providing military and intelligence aid to Ukraine.
Putin responded positively to Trump’s suggestion of increasing navigation safety in the Black Sea. The two leaders mutually agreed on immediate ceasefire on all energy and infrastructure facilities and decided to move quickly for a complete ceasefire.
