Kochi: A renowned urologist, Dr KJ George P Abraham, 75 was found hanging dead at his farmhouse in Nedumbassery area of Kochi, police said on Monday.

According to police, Abraham's body had been transferred to a private hospital in Agamaly for further procedures.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, police added.

A 75-year-old, Dr KJ George P Abraham was a renowned urologist, distinguished expert in the surgical management of complex urological disorders, and was affiliated with a well-known private hospital in Kochi.

Hospital sources informed PTI that Abraham had personally performed more than 2,500 renal transplant surgeries.

Dr Abraham, as noted on the VPS Lakeshore Hospital website, was the third surgeon globally to perform a living donor laparoscopic renal transplant. His groundbreaking work in the field set new standards for surgical practices.

Additionally, Dr Abraham made significant strides in Kerala , where he performed the first cadaver transplant, as well as the first Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and 3D laparoscopy for lap donor nephrectomy. His contributions have had a lasting impact on the region’s medical landscape.

The website further highlights that Dr Abraham was a pioneer in endourological procedures, with a remarkable 15,000 such surgeries credited to his name, cementing his legacy in the medical community.

Dr George Abraham Found Hanging Dead

Dr KJ George P Abraham's body was was found hanging at his farmhouse, which falls under the Nedumbassery police station limits.

A suicide note was found at the farmhouse, indicating that he was unable to concentrate on his profession due to his poor health, police reported.

Hospital sources confirmed that after a post-mortem at General Hospital in Ernakulam, Dr. Abraham's body was transferred to his residence in the city.

The sources also mentioned that his body will be laid to rest at the cemetery of a church in the city on Tuesday.
