In an important update on the social media platform X, Air India announced on Friday that due to a significant power outage, the London Heathrow Airport has been shut down until 23:59 on 21st March.

What Did Air India Say In Its Post?

In this post, Air India informed travelers and all its passengers, "All Air India flights to and from London Heathrow for 21st March have been cancelled."

Additionally, for more information or assistance passengers have been asked to call the "Contact Centre at +91 1169329333/ +91 1169329999. UK-bound customers, please call +44 203 757 2760."

Why Did The Airport Shut Down?

The Heathrow Airport in London which is one of the busiest airports of the world will be closed throughout Friday due to a major power outage caused by a fire at a nearby substation.

At least 120 flights have been diverted to alternative locations, as per FlightRadar24.

Among other airlines that have issued similar notifications like Air India are British Airways and Emirates, where they have informed all their passengers that all flights to and from the airport have been cancelled.

What Did Heathrow Airport Say About The Crisis?

In a separate post on X, the airport said, "Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage."

Further, the airport also apologized for the inconvenience and advised passengers not to travel to the airport. For any further information, passengers should contact their airline, it added.
