Google Flights has rolled out a new feature that aims to allow users to save big on their travel. The new tool, announced in a blog post on Monday, offers travellers insights into the optimal time to book flights for maximum savings. This addition enhances Google Flights' existing features, including price tracking alerts and a price guarantee option. Now, users will receive advice from Google on the best window for booking budget-friendly flights, backed by reliable trend data.
Here's how it works
The feature highlights when prices have historically hit their lowest point for your chosen travel dates and destination. Armed with this information, travellers can make an informed decision to book early when prices are ideal, or hold off if, historically, prices drop closer to the departure date.
Google also provided its 2023 flight booking trends, based on analysis of past pricing patterns.
The most important feature, however, is the "price guarantee" badge. On some flight results, Google will place this badge indicating its confidence that the displayed fare is the lowest it will get before takeoff. Should the price drop afterward, Google will refund the different to travellers via Google Pay, the company said. This pilot program is initially available for chosen "Book on Google" itineraries originating from the US.

Timing the travel is key, especially during the holiday season. For trips starting in mid-December, Google suggests hunting for deals in early October. Unlike 2022, where prices hit their lowest 22 days before takeoff, the new sweet spot is 54-78 days prior to departure.
