A step which may help taxpayers to file their returns during the coming days, the Income Tax Department offices across India will stay open on March 29, 30, and 31, despite the weekend and Eid-al-Fitr.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued the directive to ensure smooth processing of government payments and settlements, as per a PTI report. March 31 is also the last date to file updated income tax returns (ITRs) for AY 2023-24.

In an order, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said "to facilitate completion of pending departmental work, all the Income Tax Offices throughout India shall remain open on 29th, 30th and 31st March, 2025."

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the country's central bank, has also instructed banks handling government transactions to stay open on March 31 and arranged special clearing operations for financial settlements. (With Inputs from PTI)
