Google is reportedly preparing to revamp a crucial portion of its 30,000-strong ad sales division, as revealed by an inside source cited by The Information on Tuesday.

Sean Downey, responsible for ad sales to major clients in the Americas, mentioned during a recent department-wide meeting that Google intends to restructure its ad sales teams.

The report does not specify whether this restructuring would involve job cuts.

Google aims to streamline its staff, potentially through layoffs, by reassigning employees within its large customer sales unit responsible for managing relationships with major advertisers.

This planned reorganisation aligns with Google's increasing reliance on machine-learning techniques to facilitate ad purchases on platforms such as its search engine, YouTube, and other services.

The company has not responded immediately to Reuters' request for comments.
