Billionaire Shake-Up: Mukesh Ambani No Longer in World’s Top 10

According to the latest Hurun Global Rich List 2025, Mukesh Ambani , Chairman of Reliance Industries, has fallen out of the world's top 10 wealthiest individuals. His net worth declined by Rs1 lakh crore from the previous year, primarily due to rising debt levels within his conglomerate. Despite this setback, Ambani continues to hold the title of Asia's richest person. 

Who Tops the Global Wealth Chart

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has reclaimed the position of the world's richest individual for the fourth time in five years. His net worth surged by 82%, an increase of $189 billion, bringing his total wealth to $420 billion. This remarkable growth is attributed to the 'Trump effect' on Tesla's stock price following U.S. President Donald Trump 's re-election. 

Ambani's Wealth Decline 

Ambani's departure from the global top 10 is linked to the underperformance of Reliance Industries' energy and retail sectors. Slowing sales growth and investor concerns over escalating debt have further impacted the conglomerate, which is currently pivoting towards digital platforms and renewable energy. 

India's Wealth Landscape

While Ambani remains India's richest individual, Gautam Adani has emerged as the nation's biggest wealth gainer in absolute terms on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. Adani's net worth increased by nearly Rs 1lakh crore, reflecting the rapid expansion of his business empire across sectors such as ports, power generation, airports, mining, renewables, media, and cement. 
In a notable development, Roshni Nadar, Chairperson of HCL Technologies, has become the first Indian woman to break into the top 10 of the Hurun India Rich List 2025. Her ascent is attributed to a significant stake transfer within HCL, positioning her as the fifth richest woman globally. 

Ambanis Making Headlines

Mukesh Ambani continues to expand Reliance Industries despite recent financial setbacks. Reliance is in talks with OpenAI and Meta for AI collaborations, possibly distributing ChatGPT in India. The company also acquired Dahej's Nauyaan Shipyard, likely for renewable energy projects. 

Additionally, Reliance has partnered with SpaceX’s Starlink to enhance satellite internet connectivity in India. On the personal front, the Ambani family’s grand wedding for Anant Ambani made global headlines, attended by celebrities like Kim Kardashian . Despite mounting debt, Ambani remains Asia’s richest man and continues driving major business expansions.
