Sir Dorabji Tata Trust Passes Resolution To Set Up Selection Committee For Successor

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) confirmed on Thursday that it has passed a resolution to begin setting up a Selection Committee to recommend the next Chairman of Tata Sons, days after N Chandrasekaran informed the board he would not seek reappointment.

In a statement, Mumbai, SDTT said its nominee directors received an email from Chandrasekaran on August 12, in which he conveyed his decision not to offer himself for reappointment as Chairman upon the expiry of his current tenure on February 20, 2027.

Trust "Respects" The Decision

The trust said it respects Chandrasekaran's decision and placed on record its appreciation for his stewardship of Tata Sons and the wider Tata group over the past decade, thanking him for his contribution during a period of significant change and transformation across the group.

The Trustees of SDTT said they have passed a resolution to establish a Selection Committee as soon as possible, in accordance with the Articles of Association of Tata Sons, to recommend a person for appointment as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.

SDTT said it will extend full support to Tata Sons in ensuring a smooth, timely and orderly transition of leadership, consistent with the values and long-term interests of Tata Sons and the Tata group.

Chandrasekaran's exit ends a months-long standoff over his reappointment, after the Tata Sons board failed to reach unanimous consensus on extending his term despite Tata Trusts having earlier recommended a five-year extension. He will continue as Chairman until his term concludes in February 2027. The Tata Sons AGM on August 18 is likely to bring further clarity on the succession timeline.
