Investors at the TiE Global Summit (TGS) expressed confidence that the funding winter for Indian startups, marked by a scarcity of funds, is likely to come to an end by March. However, they emphasised that budding entrepreneurs seeking investments must present credible plans for generating returns, as extravagant valuations will no longer captivate global fund managers.
The eighth edition of the flagship event organised by TiE, held in conjunction with the Singapore Fintech Festival, saw over 2,000 participants, including experts, fund managers, thought leaders, and startups.
Gaurav VK Singhvi, Co-founder of We Founder Circle, stated that improvements for Indian startups are expected by March next year. He mentioned that global investors are currently holding funds, and once uncertainties related to geopolitics, such as the Ukraine war and the Middle East crisis, are resolved, funds will start flowing.
Jack R Selby, Managing Director of Thiel Capital, echoed similar sentiments, noting that investors have ample "dry powder" (funds) and are actively seeking investment opportunities. However, he emphasised that startups need to present credible plans to ensure proper returns, as the funding ecosystem undergoes a reset.

The ongoing funding winter, a period of reduced funding for startups, has been a predominant theme at the conference. The slowdown in funding for Indian startups began in mid-2022, with fund flows dropping by 77% to around USD 4.4 billion from January to July 2023, compared to USD 19.5 billion in the year-ago period.
The summit also highlighted the crucial role startups play in driving innovative solutions. Speakers emphasised the importance of networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among entrepreneurs.
