The deadly terror attack on the Indian Army convoy on Thursday that claimed the lives of five jawans have raised concerns about the safety and security in the valley. During the incident, the terrorists used sophisticated weapons to attack the convoy and later posted it on social media as well. Apart from the safety concerns, the use of advanced sophisticated US-made weapons by the terrorists is clearly hinting at some larger connections linked to the terrorists.

The latest attack on the soldiers on Thursday was carried out in Poonch district of J&K, when two of the army vehicles were enroute to support a cordon and search operation in the forest area. After deadly attack, the security forces have launched a massive search operation in the region to track down the terrorists. 

At least 33 jawans have been killed in 7 major terror attacks in Rajouri and Poonch

Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri have witnessed a series of attacks on the soldiers one after the other in the last few months. This could be understood by the fact that at least 33 jawans were killed in 7 major terror attacks in the last 30 months in J&K’s Rajouri and Poonch districts.

• 11 October 2021: Five Army personnel including Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Rashtriya Rifles Unit killed in ‘Dera Ki Gali’ area of Poonch. 
• 15 October 2021: Four Army personnel including JCO of Rashtriya Rifles Unit killed in Bhatta Durriyan area of Poonch. 
• 11 August 2022: Five Army personnel including JCO of Rashtriya Rifles Unit killed in Dera Ki Gali area of Rajouri. 
• 20 April 2023: Five Army personnel of Rashtriya Rifles Unit killed in Bhatta Durriyan area of Poonch. 
• 05 May 2023: Five Army personnel of Special Forces Unit Para killed in Kandi area of Rajouri. 
• 22 November 2023: Five Army personnel of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Forces Unit killed in Bajimaal area of Rajouri. 
• 21 December 2023: Four Army personnel of Rashtriya Rifles Unit killed in attack in Dera Ki Gali area of Poonch.
