CTET 2024: The Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) has released the notification for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for the December 2024 session. The exam will be conducted on December 1, 2024. Registration has also started. The last date to apply for CTET December 2024 is October 16. CTET 2024: Overview
CTET is a national-level exam, which is a minimum qualification for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for classes I to VIII. Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) conducts CTET twice a year- in June/July and December. Read on to know the top 5 points you should keep in mind while applying for CTET.
1- CTET 2024 Eligibility Criteria
For Paper 1: Primary Stage (Class I - V)
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), following the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002. OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.
For Paper 1: Elementary Stage (Class VI-VIII) - Any One Of These
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). OR
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. OR
- Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). OR
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). OR
- Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), following the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard. OR
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed (Special Education) OR
Any candidate who has passed B.Ed programme recognized by the NCTE is eligible to appear in TET/CTET. Moreover, as per the existing TET guidelines circulated vide NCTE letter dated 11-02-2011, a person who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognized by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified in the NCTE Notification dated 23rd August 2010 is also qualified to appear in the TET/CTET.
2- CTET 2024 Age Limit
Candidates must note that the minimum age for applying for CTET is 18 years. CBSE has not set the upper age limit for applying for the exam.
3- CTET Attempts
Candidates can take any number of attempts for CTET. Moreover, the certificate of CTET qualification is also valid for a lifetime. “The Validity Period of CTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be for a lifetime for all categories. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a CTET Certificate. A person who has qualified CTET may also appear again to improve his/her score,” the official notification reads.
4- CTET Application Fee
General and OBC (NCL) candidates who apply for paper 1 or paper 2 have to pay an application fee of Rs 1000 while the reserved category candidates will pay Rs 500. For unreserved and OBC (NCL) candidates applying for both papers will pay Rs 1200 while for reserved candidates, the fee is Rs 600.
5- CTET Certificate Applicability
The CTET shall apply to schools of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.) and schools under the administrative control of UT‟s of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and NCT of Delhi.
CTET may also apply to the unaided private schools, who may exercise the option of considering the CTET.
Schools owned and managed by the State Government/local bodies and aided schools shall consider the TET conducted by the State Government. However, a State Government can also consider the CTET if it decides not to conduct the State TET.
According to CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws, prescribing the minimum qualifications for teachers to teach various subjects in Classes I to VIII in the schools Affiliated to CBSE stands amended to that extent and it shall be mandatory that the teachers appointed hereinafter i.e. 6th March 2012 to teach classes I to VIII in the Schools affiliated to the CBSE shall qualify/pass the Central Teacher Eligibility Test or Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), conducted by the appropriate Central/ State Government per the Guidelines framed by the NCTE for this purpose.
