The Aam Aadmi Party has issued a statement after the shocking attack on its party's chief Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi CM was slapped on Saturday during a roadshow.

The attacker has been identified as Suresh, from Kailash Park area and has been taken to Motinagar police station.

The party said it condemned the attack and blamed the security for negligence.

"Another negligence in the security of CM @ArvindKejriwal. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal got attacked during the roadshow. We condemned this cowardly act. This opposition sponsored attack cannot stop the Aam Aadmi in Delhi," the statement read.

It was found out that the attacker had shouted 'Mai deshbhakt hu' before trying to dredge the chilli powder in the eyes of Kejriwal, who managed to survive the scare due to his spectacles.

In the aftermath of the attack, Delhi Police, along with the Intelligence Bureau questioned the attacker and Republic TV has accessed the video of the same. Suresh could be seen brazenly defending his action while accusing Kejriwal of fooling the people.

AAP has claimed that BJP is hatching a conspiracy against the party and its national convenor while also accusing Delhi Police of letting the attack happen.

AAP leader and Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted saying, "Do Modi-Shah want to kill Kejriwal? Since you could not break his will, defeat him in the elections despite using all force for the last five years, you want to remove him from the race in this way, you cowards!"

Party leader Sanjay Singh also spoke about the attack asking whether there is a political conspiracy behind the attack.

"दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री की सुरक्षा मोदी सरकार के अधीन है लेकिन @ArvindKejriwal का जीवन सबसे असुरक्षित है बार बार हमला और फिर पुलिस का रोना क्या साज़िश है इसके पीछे? हिम्मत है तो सामने आकर वार करो दूसरों को हथियार बनाकर नही. If you have the guts, attack us from the front than using others as your weapon)," he tweeted
