After a high-decibel election campaign, voting for the Assembly elections is underway in the state of Telangana. However, renowned badminton player Jwala Gutta has questioned the fairness of Telangana elections after she claimed that her name has gone missing from the voters' list. In her twitter tirade, she wrote:
"Surprised to see my name disappear from the voting list after checking online"
"How’s the election fair when names are mysteriously disappearing from the list?" she asked in the second tweet.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led alliance challenging the ruling TRS, and the BJP seeking to make it a triangular contest in Telangana. More than 1.50 lakh polling officials including reserve staff were in the process of giving final touches Thursday to make the election to the 119-member House a smooth affair. For the first time, the Election Commission is using Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in Telangana.
The assembly polls were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year, but the House was dissolved prematurely on September 6 as per a recommendation by the state cabinet.
