Amid the raging controversy and public outrage over SP leader Azam Khan's comment on BJP candidate Jaya Prada who is fighting against him in the Lok Sabha Election for the Rampur seat, Bollywood actor Koena Mitra has spoken against the lewd remark.
In a shocking and disgraceful remark, Azam Khan had on Sunday said that it was he who brought Jaya Prada to Rampur and it took 17 years for people to identify her real face. He then went on to make completely inappropriate and indefensible comments, including a shameful 'khaki-undergarment' remark.
Koena Mitra took to Twitter and said that Azam Khan should be arrested immediately. She also expressed her anger by abusing the man (blacked-out) and saying that she should not be allowed to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Her reaction comes hours ahead of the Election Commission's notice to Azam Khan. Taking cognisance of the crude 'khaki' remark by the SP leader who is also a serial offender, the poll body has sought a report.
This comes at the backdrop of a letter sent by The National Commission of Women (NCW) asking it to cancel the nomination of Azam Khan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. Chairperson of The National Commission of Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma called his comment as extremely disgraceful and appealed all women to not vote for him.
However, party chief Akhilesh Yadav sticking up for his subordinate has maintained his denial.
He said, "Just now, Azam Khan gave a speech on the stage where he said that some people wear the RSS pants. He did not name anyone. The people of Samajwadi Party do not say such things about women and daughters."
Few in the Congress like Sheila Dikshit have condemned his remark. She said: "Whatever he (Azam Khan) has done, it is wrong, absolutely wrong. In our country women have been treated equally like men. There have been the women like Indira Gandhi the best of all Prime Ministers ever. And now Priyanka is also in politics. So this is a country where women are equal to men. In politics and elsewhere. Women never say or comment on actions by men or tell them what to do what not to do. Both are the part of the same society. Whatever he (Azam Khan) has said, is wrong and I condemn each word."
Azam Khan, who is contesting from Rampur, has come to be been notoriously known for his controversial remarks. In this very election season he had earlier stoked controversy due to his speech in which he hurled horrific remarks on Rampur collector and accused Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and the BJP of plotting to kill him.
