Taking cognisance of the lewd 'khaki undergarment' comment on BJP's Jaya Pradha, the Election Commission on Monday has issued a notice to SP leader Azam Khan imposing a 72-hour prohibition staring 10 am on Tuesday and further reprimanded the leader for his remark.
Along with the punishment, an FIR under Section 509 of IPC and Section 125 of Representation of the people Act, 1951 has been lodged against the senior SP leader for his 'indecent' and 'repugnant' comment against Jaya Prada.
Khan had been banned for campaigning in Uttar Pradesh for his misconduct and 'provocative' speech back in Lok Sabha 2014 and even in 2019, the poll body has stated that he has violated the Model Code of Conduct.
He has been barred from holding public meetings, public processions, public rallies, road shows and interviews, public utterances in media (print, electronic and social media) for 72 hours.
Khan, who is in the fray from Rampur on the SP ticket, made the obnoxious remark in the presence of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and other senior party leaders, who were present on the dais.
"I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underp****," said Khan while addressing an election rally here.
