Contradictory statements from Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi has left the Congress in confusion. Putting the onus on his sister, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said in an interview,
"As far as Priyanka is concerned, it is up to her to decide if she wants to contest the election or not"
Priyanka had earlier said that based on the increasing demands from party leadership, she will take a call on whether to fight the polls or not.
This added further speculations to her potential run in Assembly polls since her 'Why not Varanasi' quip on Thursday to Varanasi Congress supporters when they asked her to contest from Rae Bareli, her mother's parliamentary constituency.
While a possible Narendra Modi - Priyanka Gandhi battle seems rife in Varanasi, Congress supporters are confused regarding Priyanka's statement.
On Wednesday, in a two-day visit to her brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi's constituencies Amethi and Rae Bareli respectively to lead the party's poll campaign, Priyanka Gandhi said:
"I have not decided yet, if my party asks me to contest, I will definitely contest. My wish is to work for the party. I will do what my party wants me to."
This indecision has led to Rahul Gandhi to mull over the possibility of contesting from a second-seat in the Lok Sabha 2019 elections saying
Many party leaders have fought elections from more than one seat in the past and a decision on the issue will be taken by the party soon
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who was appointed as AICC general secretary for Eastern UP on 23 January 2019, has been campaigning in Eastern UP since then.
Her striking similarity to her grandmother Indira Gandhi has increased her popularity in UP where she recently went on a 3-day boat campaign from Prayagraj called 'Ganga Yatra' which commenced on 18 March 2019.
