Following the YSR Congress’ defeat in the assembly polls, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday tendered his resignation to Governor S Abdul Nazeer, official sources said.
Except one minister, all the cabinet colleagues of Jagan are trailing in the polls.
Speaker Thammineni Sitaram also lost the poll to his TDP rival K Ravi Kumar in Amadalavalas assembly segment.
Jagan is likely to continue as caretaker CM until the new government takes over in the state, sources added.
“Never imagined that the outcome would be like this,” said AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on YSRCP's defeat.

Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set to make a comeback to power in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide victory in both Assembly and Lok Sabha polls as per the early trends of the Election Commission of India. As per the ECI data, the Janasena Party is leading on 19 seats, the BJP on 7 seats while the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is leading on 13 seats in Andhra Pradesh.
