BJP All Set To Retain Power in Arunachal Pradesh, Party Leading in 33 Seats

Counting of votes for 50 assembly seats in the northeastern state began at 6 am on Sunday.

Itanagar: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in heading towards another victory in Arunachal Pradesh. In the state assembly elections, the BJP is leading in 33 assembly seats while the National People's Party (NPEP) was ahead in six constituencies, according to the Election Commission of India trends. 

Counting of votes for 50 assembly seats in the northeastern state began at 6 am on Sunday, despite heavy rain in several pockets of the state. Despite rain, hundreds of supporters of various political parties were seen standing near the counting centres. 

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is leading in four seats, while the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) is leading in three. The Congress is ahead in one seat while in two constituencies independents are leading after the third round of counting.

BJP Won 10 Seats Unopposed 

The BJP enjoys an edge as it has already won 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly. Assembly elections were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in the first phase on April 19.

The 10 seats won by BJP include Lumla, Kalaktang, Koloriang, Nacho, Likabali, Basar, Along (West), Along (East). Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already won their respective seats.

What Happened in 2019 Assembly Polls 

In the last assembly elections, the BJP registered a massive victory by winning 41 seats in the state. In 2019 assembly elections, Janata Dal (United) bagged seven, the National People's Party (NPP) five, Congress four, and the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) one. Two independents also won in the Assembly polls. All except one Congress MLA, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, joined the BJP later.
