Change of Guard In Odisha? BJP Leads In 75 Seats, BJD 56 With CM Patnaik Trailing
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday gained massive momentum in the Odisha State Assembly elections by touching the halfway mark of 74 seats.
Odisha Assembly Election Results: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday gained massive momentum in the Odisha State Assembly elections by touching the halfway mark of 74 seats as counting of votes is underway.
In the 147-member Assembly, the BJP got a major push in early trends with 74 seats, while the ruling BJD witnessed a huge setback with 57 seats, according to trends at 12:30 PM.
The Indian National Congress (INC) was leading on 13 seats and the Left front on one, according to the early trends. If the BJP manages to maintain its position with an extra push in close-contesting seats, then a change of guard in the state is apparent.
Odisha, traditionally a stronghold of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's BJD, is witnessing a fierce contest as the BJP seeks to make significant gains in both the Assembly and General elections.
Naveen Patnaik Trailing
With a close margin, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is trailing from the Kantabanji Assembly seat with BJP candidate Laxman Bag surging ahead.
The BJD met the same fate in the Lok Sabha election as the BJP has swept through the state as per the initial trends. The saffron party is currently leading on 19 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats. Congress and BJD is leading on one seats each.
