Amid the ongoing tussle within the Delhi Congress on whether to form an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming polls, sources have told Republic TV that the matter has been kept in front of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which will take the final call.

Republic TV has learnt that Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) leaders met with party president Rahul Gandhi on Monday morning, and important points were kept in front of him regarding a possible alliance with Arvind Kejriwal's party.

While the likes of Ajay Maken (former DPCC president) and PC Chacko are in favor of joining hands with with the ruling party in Delhi for the upcoming polls, former state CM Sheila Dikshit and her camp are totally against it.

But according to sources, the tide may shift in favor of an alliance with Arvinder Singh Lovely, a former minister in Sheila Dikshit's Delhi government, siding with the idea of fighting against the BJP with the support of AAP.

While the AAP has time and time again stated that it would welcome an alliance with the Congress in order to fight the BJP, the grand old party is extremely divided over this matter.

There have been reports that the senior leaders of the party at the national level are open to contesting the polls with Arvind Kejriwal's party, though, leaders at the state level seem hellbent against it.

Sheila Dikshit, a former three-time Delhi CM and now DPCC president, had written a letter to Rahul Gandhi when the talks of an alliance became stagnant.

"(Sheila) Dikshit and the working presidents have urged the Congress chief not to have an alliance with the AAP, saying it will harm the party in the long run," said a Delhi Congress leader.

Though, AICC spokesperson PC Chacko, only a few days back, iterated that working with the AAP will benefit the Congress against the BJP.

"As far as I know there are senior leaders in Delhi who think that defeating BJP is party's immediate responsibility; for it we should form an alliance with AAP, that's the thinking of the majority of leaders," he added.
