It's Official: Chirag Paswan To Contest Against Uncle Pashupati Paras From Hajipur

Hajipur is considered to be a pocket borough of Lok Janshakti Party founder and Chirag's father late Ram Vilas Paswan.

New Delhi: Lok Janshakti Party (RamVilas) chief Chirag Paswan made it official on Wednesday, March 20, that he will be contesting from the Hajipur parliamentray contsituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. Hajipur is considered to be a pocket borough of Lok Janshakti Party founder and Chirag's father late Ram Vilas Paswan.

Leaders of the  Lok Janshakti Party (RamVilas) including Chirag Paswan held a parliamentary board meeting earlier in the day. During the meet, it was decided that Chirag Paswan woukd contest from Hajipur.

“During the party's parliamentary board meeting today, it has been officially decided that I will contesting (Lok Sabha election) from Hajipur seat as NDA candidate from LJP,” said Chirag Paswan after the Parliamentary Board meeting.

Expressing happiness, Chirag Paswan said that he would be contesting from the “karmabhoomi” of his father Ram Vilas Paswan. 

Chirag Paswan on Pashupati Paras Contesting From Hajipur

On the question of his estranged uncle Pashupati Paras contesting from Hajipur in the upcoming assembly election, Chirag Paswan said, “He (Pashupati Kumar Paras) is welcome (to contest from there). I have bravely faced all challenges. I have never been scared of any challenges...I accept this challenge too.”

On competing against his own uncle from the Hajipur constituency, Paswan remarked, "This isn't merely a political choice for me; it also holds implications for my family. Such decisions should not only be made by political parties but should also consider the sentiments of all family members. Previously, the decision to separate from the family was his (Pashupathi Paras') alone, and it continues to be his decision," Paswan said.

Pashupati Paras is the sitting MP from Hajipur while Chirag Paswan represents Jamui.
