Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls 2024:
Jammu and Kashmir has 90 Assembly constituencies, including 7 reserved for SCs and 9 reserved for STs.
According to the Election Commission of India, as many as 8.806 million eligible voters are in the region.

This assembly election will be crucial for Jammu and Kashmir as it is holding its first assembly elections in a decade-long wait to elect a government after over six years of central government rule. The polls were held in three phases. The first round saw 24 assembly constituencies contested across the Chenab Valley districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian. Furthermore, the second and third phases included 26 seats and 40 seats respectively.
In the first phase on September 18 for 24 seats, a voter turnout of 61.13 per cent was recorded, while in the second phase, 56.95 per cent was recorded for voters across 25 seats. In the third phase, a turnout of 63.88 per cent was recorded.
The poll battle saw a tough fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) a Congress -National Conference ( Congress -NC) alliance and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, a last-minute alliance between Baramulla lawmaker Sheikh Abdul Rashid’s Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and politico-religious outfit Jamaat-e-Islami — their candidates are contesting as Independents.
Many key candidates such as former deputy chief ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Baig, and former ministers Taj Mohiuddin, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukhari and Sajad Lone. The race also included Ajaz Ahmad Guru, brother of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in the polls.
