Polling in the two constituencies in the state bordering China was held in the first phase on April 19, along with assembly polls in the northeastern state. In the assembly elections, the ruling BJP won 46 seats in the 60-member assembly followed by the National People’s Party (NPEP) in five, NCP in three seats, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) in two seats, Congress in one and independent candidates won in three seats respectively.
BJP MP Tapir Gao won the Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency defeating his nearest rival Bosiram Siram of the Congress by a margin of 30,421 votes. Gao secured 1,45,581 votes while Siram bagged 1,15,160 votes.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju and another BJP candidate Tapir Gao won the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh, according to the Election Commission. Both retained the seat.
BJP is leadind in Arunachal East as well as Arunachal West Lok Sabha seat
There are a total of 14 candidates in the fray for two Lok Sabha seats. A total of 8 are contesting for the Arunachal West seat, while 6 for the Arunachal East seat. The key candidates for Arunachal West key candidates are Union Earth Sciences minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Congress President Nabam Tuki. Also in the race is Techi Rana contesting as an Independent. The key candidates for the Arunachal East seat are sitting MP Tapir Gao, BJP and Bosiram Siram of Congress.
Arunachal Pradesh went to polls simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the first phase on April 19. The voter turnout this year for Arunachal East was 83.31% and for Arunachal West it was 73.60%.
The total number of constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh are two: Arunachal East, and Arunachal West. Arunachal West covers the entire Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, and West Siang districts. The Lok Sabha constituency consists of 33 legislative Assembly constituencies. Meanwhile, Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency covers the entire Upper Siang, East Siang, Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Anjaw, Changlang and Tirap districts.
