Haryana CM Khattar comments on Mamata Banerjee’s proposal of Mallikarjun Kharge as PM face
Speaking on the matter, Manohar Lal Khattar stated, “To take Congress forward, they did some experiments in the past and they succeeded in it.”
New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has weighed in on the reports of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proposing Mallikarjun Kharge as the Prime Ministerial face of the INDI alliance.
Speaking on the matter, Manohar Lal Khattar stated, “To take Congress forward, they did some experiments in the past and they succeeded in it.”
Khattar highlighted the historical instances where the Congress party appointed leaders like PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh as Prime Ministers, each serving notable tenures. However, he expressed a critical view regarding the trajectory after Sonia Gandhi proposed Rahul Gandhi, remarking, “After 2009, everyone has forgotten everything.”
Acknowledging Mallikarjun Kharge's potential role in strengthening the Congress, Khattar stated, "If he has come back to strengthen the Congress again, then it is a good thing."
However, he cautioned against following a similar pattern in Haryana, urging the opposition to consider alternative leadership to invigorate the party.
Mallikarjun Kharge, PM face of INDI alliance?
Notably, INDI alliance partners on Tuesday allegedly backed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's name for the opposition's Prime Ministerial face.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had proposed Kharge's name, according to reports. Reacting to this development, Kharge said, "We have passed a resolution that suspension is undemocratic.
We have passed a resolution that suspension is undemocratic. We will all have to fight to save democracy and all of us are ready to do that. We raised the issue of security breach in the Parliament….will discuss the PM issue later.
There have been two resolutions that have been adopted in the meeting: One, regarding condemning the suspension of MPs.
Secondly, the alliance plans to kick-start campaigning from January 30. Seat sharing will be based state-wise as Trinamool Congress.
Committee formed will be looking at seat sharing. Meanwhile, Banerjee has set a deadline for December 31 for seat-sharing, which has been a contentious issue among the INDI alliance partners.
