Strategically nestled between Kolkata and the South 24 Parganas district, Diamond Harbour is a vital stronghold for the TMC. Abhishek Banerjee bagged 7,18,189 votes till 2.06 pm, while his BJP opponent, Abhijit Das, trails far behind with 1,86,827 votes, according to Election Commission data.

TMC heavyweight and sitting MP Abhishek Banerjee is all set to clinch a third straight victory from the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat, with an insurmountable lead of over 5,31,362 votes, as counting was underway.

Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee's nephew, won this seat for the Trinamool Congress in the general elections of 2014 and 2019. With 7,91,127 votes, Abhishek Banerjee won the seat back in the 2019 election. Nilanjan Roy of the BJP and Fuad Halim of the CPI(M) came next.

The Congress and Communists have taken turns holding the Diamond Harbour constituency since the 1952 Lok Sabha election. From 1967 until 2009, it developed into a bastion for the CPI(M), until the TMC, running Somen Mitra as their candidate, ended this domination.

The Election Commission (EC) reports that on Saturday, June 1, around 72.87% of voters cast ballots in the seventh phase of voting for the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat.

On June 1st, the constituency had elections. The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of manipulating the election and has appealed to the Election Commission requesting a recount at certain booths in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat.
