Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), predicted that the opposition would win 30 to 35 of Maharashtra's 48 Lok Sabha seats. “Five years ago, the Congress and MIM each won one Lok Sabha seat, while the NCP won four.” According to Pawar, the opposition would win between 30 to 35 seats in Maharashtra this time.
On May 13, Pune held elections, recording 69,854 more votes than in 2019. Compared to 49.87 percent in the 2019 elections, 53.54 percent of voters cast ballots in this election. Concerns about names missing from electoral rolls prompted complaints about turnout. As a result, determining the outcome will largely depend on the swing of increased voting.
The BJP and Congress are directly competing in the Pune Lok Sabha constituency, where the BJP has won the previous two Lok Sabha elections. Both parties selected new candidates this time. While the Congress's Ravindra Dhangekar is battling to reclaim its lost stronghold, the BJP's Murlidhar Mohol is vying to hold the seat for a third time.
Kolhapur and Satara constituencies, where members of two royal dynasties have entered the race, will be among the most closely followed Lok Sabha poll contests in Maharashtra. Their status is undoubtedly in jeopardy on the ballot battlefield, even though their royal title is unaffected in any way.
Prominent political leaders like Union ministers Nitin Gadkari (from Nagpur seat), Piyush Goyal (from Mumbai North), Narayan Rane (from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg), Raosaheb Danve (from Jalna), Bharti Pawar (from Dindori), and Kapil Patil (from Bhiwandi) are among the 1,121 contestants. The race in Baramati, where Supriya Sule, the daughter of Sharad Pawar and current MP for the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), will be among the most exciting, though, as she faces off against her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Ajit Pawar, who last year masterminded a split in the NCP.
There were fierce battles in Maharashtra for the 48 Lok Sabha seats between the factions of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), as well as the NCP (Ajit Pawar) and NCP (Sharad Pawar). With the support of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in five seats and the Shiv Sena (Shinde) in 14, the BJP fielded candidates in 28 seats. However, Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (Sharad Pawar) were contesting in 21 constituencies, 17 for the Maha Vikas Aghadi members, and 10 for the others. Maharashtra's Lok Sabha election was conducted in five stages.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the BJP to two consecutive election victories in 2014 and 2019. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, the UPA coalition secured five seats, the AIMIM and the Independent secured one seat apiece, while the NDA alliance secured 41 seats.
The Mahayuti, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is predicted by several exit polls to win between 22 and 35 seats in Maharashtra, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is predicted to win between 15 and 26 seats.
