Chennai South, An AIADMK Stronghold
Chennai South is one of the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu, comprising six Assembly segments: Virugampakkam, Saidapet, Thiyagarayanagar, Mylapore, Velachery, and Shozhinganallur. It is a general category seat with DMK and ADMK as the main contenders. In the 2019 elections, T. Sumathy (a) Thamizhachi Thangapandian of DMK won with 564,872 votes (50%) against ADMK's Dr. J. Jayavardhan, who received 302,649 votes (26.87%). In the 2014 elections, Dr. J. Jayavardhan of AIADMK won with 434,540 votes (40.03%), defeating DMK’s T.K.S. Elangovan, who got 298,965 votes (27.54%).
The counting of the votes begins at 8 of all the seats.
Tamilisai Soundararaja is leading from the Chennai South seat against J. Jayavardhan of AIADMK.
T.SUMATHY (ALIAS) THAMIZHACHI THANGAPANDIAN of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won.
