Actor Prakash Raj on Friday filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from Bengaluru Central in Karnataka for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The much-famed South Indian and Hindi film industry actor, who has been very vocal in his stand against the two national parties - Congress and BJP - had in January confirmed that he would be making a foray into the politics by contesting in the 2019 elections.

Prakash Raj has been vocal about his views on the current BJP-led government at the Centre. He has also been one of those seeking justice for his friend and journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot outside her residence in September 2017.

After he had announced his decision to fight the elections, Prakash Raj had received unconditional support from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), whose convenor Arvind Kejriwal met the famed actor.

The upcoming Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases starting April 11 and concluding on May 19, with the counting of votes taking place on May 23. In Karnataka, which holds 28 seats in the assembly, elections will be conducted in two phases.

In 14 seats, the elections will be held on April 18, while the polls on remaining 14 seats will take place on April 23.
