'Why is DMK irked when Tamil Nadu Speaker initiates action against three AIADMK MLAs?', asks CM EPS. Here's why

The reason for the curious development entailed in the DMK being worried on account of AIADMK MLAs being acted against is on account of the numbers inside the assembly, which are against the ADMK with the EPS government enjoying just a wafer-thin majority

As politics in the state peaks ahead of the results of Parliamentary elections as well as the results of the by-elections pending after the Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker sent notice to 3 AIADMK MLAs for showing their loyalty to TTV Dinakaran, DMK representatives rushed to meet the assembly secretary and have given a petition to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker P Dhanapal stating that he's behaving in a biased manner by taking action against the three AIADMK MLAs.

The reason for the curious development entailed in the DMK being worried on account of AIADMK MLAs being acted against is on account of the numbers inside the assembly, which are against the ADMK with the EPS government enjoying just a wafer-thin majority.

The Speaker took the decision to take action against the AIADMK MLAs who are close to TTV Dinakaran assuming their vote could go against the government if a vote of confidence happens inside the assembly post the by-poll results. Hence, AIADMK is making sure it takes off all the possible opposite votes to get prepared for the worst-case scenario.

DMK has also fixed another check before the assembly Speaker as he cannot disqualify any MLA as there is a resolution pending against him which is according to the Supreme Court's ruling. He can't disqualify any MLAs until the resolution is cleared.

The AIADMK government needs 9 seats to have a safe majority out of 22 vacant seats for which by-elections are conducted, Even if they manage to get 6 seats out of 22, the Speaker can disqualify these 3 MLAs based on the recommendations of the AIADMK whip which could help them to get the majority inside the house.

This would lead to the DMK missing their chance for to topple the government and hence DMK rushed to the assembly on Tuesday to give a petition to the assembly secretary to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

While addressing the media, Tamil Nadu CM Edapadi Palanisamy said that DMK’s decision to move a resolution to remove the Speaker shows how close they are with AMMK (TTV Dhinakaran's party)

He said "The opposition leader is getting angry for no reason. So what can you understand from this? This shows how DMK and Dhinakaran’s AMMK are so close."

The numbers in the Tamil Nadu assembly have repeatedly changed, with a number of MLAs switching loyalties often.

Will the state assembly finally see 234 MLAs post 23rd after two long years? Or will there be another disqualification drama which will lead to another set of by-elections? It's a billion dollar question.
