Leading actors in the Hindi film industry have often received praise for portraying variable kinds of characters on screen. The ultimate desire to sit behind the camera and make a film themselves has made many actors try their hand in direction. Lots of them have even been praised for their skills. Actors who tried their hand in direction

Ajay Devgn

The actor decided to wear the director's cap in the year 2007 with the romantic drama film U Me Aur Hum. He acted as the lead in the film opposite his wife and actor Kajol. Ajay was praised for his debut in direction. He, later on, directed Shivaay which was released in the year 2016 and was a hit at the box office. It also won a National Award for Best Special effects.

Aamir Khan

The 'perfectionist' of the Hindi film industry immediately decided to get into the director's shoes as he came across the perfect script of Taare Zameen Par. The film was written by Amole Gupte and was a super hit at the box office. The story revolves around a child who suffers from dyslexia. It was India's official entry into the 2009 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film.

Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan worked as an actor in the 70s and 80s. He played some amazing roles on screen. The actor decided to get into direction with the 1987 film Khudgarz. He received critical acclaim for his notable work as a director for films like Karan Arjun, Koi mil Gaya and Krrish.

Konkana Sen

After having a brilliant career in the mainstream as well as parallel cinema, Konkana Sen made her debut in direction with the 2016 drama-thriller film A Death in the Gunj. She even won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Direction. The film was praised by the critics. The film was even screened at 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol has gained massive stardom and love from his fans. He is currently a member of Parliament from Gurdaspur constituency of Punjab state. The actor made his debut in direction with the 1999 film Dillagi and later on also directed Ghayal once again (2016). He recently directed romantic film Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas which marked the debut of his son Karan Deol in the film industry.
