Amid criticism for the questions that spurred Hardik Pandya’s controversial answers on ‘Koffee with Karan’ that landed him and KL Rahul in soup and the airing of episodes despite them, Karan Johar is now being slammed for his own comments about his movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ in a recent interview. (Spoiler alert here onwards for people who’ve not seen the 2016 movie) The filmmaker justified the climax of the movie where Anushka Sharma’s character is seen suffering from cancer by saying that since she didn’t love Ranbir Kapoor’s character, she ‘had to die.’

Moreover, when asked if he was ‘punishing’ the character for not reciprocate his feelings, he said a ‘filmmaker is god’ who ‘writes, creates and destroys.’ In the interview, he also justifies as ‘love’ Ranbir’s character’s (based on Karan’s real life) actions of not taking no for an answer.

Netizens were not pleased with his justification and some were just furious, calling his views ‘disgusting’, ‘terrible’ and a few were shocked. They compared his reasoning to the rampant crime against women, rape, acid attacks and stalking for not reciprocating the man’s feelings and one responded, ‘misogyny knows no bounds.’
