Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the most popular actors in India as well as globally. The former Miss World has been in the industry for over 22 years. Aishwarya has appeared in over 40 films in five different languages. She has won audience accolades from all corners of the world for her work.

Here are five of her South Indian films that you can't miss 

Iruvar (1997)

Iruvar is a Tamil political drama film. The film was co-written and directed by Mani Ratnam. It is based on the relationship between cinema and politics. Iruvar starred Mohanlal, Aishwarya Rai, Revathi, Tabu and Nassar in pivotal roles. This was also Aishwarya Rai’s debut into the film industry.

Enthiran (2010)

This was Aishwarya Rai’s first time on the big screen alongside megastar, Rajnikanth. Enthiran revolves around the subject of a humanoid robot which is built to help humanity but due to certain circumstances, it starts acting against his creators. S Shankar directed the film. Enthiran was further released in Hindi as Robot and Telugu as Robo.

Kandukondain (2000)

The drama-romance film is based on the best-selling book Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. It had an elaborate cast of Mammootty, Ajith Kumar, Tabu, Abbas along with Aishwarya. AR Rahman gave the soundtrack of the film and Rajiv Menon was the director. Kandukondain was dubbed into Telugu and released as Priyuralu Pilichindi. The film went on to win accolades from both national and international audiences. Shankar Mahadevan also won the National award for the ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ for this film.

Raavanan (2010)

The Mani Ratnam directed movie starred Aishwarya along with Vikram and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles. The film is a revenge-adventure-drama film. A Hindi version of the film was simultaneously shot featuring Abhishek Bachchan and released as Raavan. Raavanan was also dubbed in Telugu as Villian. All three versions were released together.

Jeans (1998)

‘Jeans’ is a Tamil romantic, comedy film. The S Shankar directed film featured Prashanth, Aishwarya Rai, and Nassar in lead roles. AR Rahman gave the soundtrack. Owing to its nationwide success, the film was submitted as India’s official entry for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ for the Academy Awards after its release, but it did not get nominated. The film was later dubbed into Hindi and Telugu and released with the same title.
