Akshay Kumar has been popular since the 1990s for this back-to-back action thrillers. His Khiladi series also came out during this time, which established him as an action hero. Khiladi (1992)

Khiladi had reportedly put Akshay Kumar on the map. It was his first big hit. Akshay’s Thai boxing skills had been utilized fully by the makers. The movie is about two friends who liked waging bets between themselves. But one such bet ruins the friendship between them and both try to win it at all cost. Khiladi was the first movie in Akshay’s Khiladi series. The movie stars Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori and Sabeeha in the lead roles besides Akshay Kumar.

Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)

This movie gave Bollywood its iconic song which is also the title track. Besides Akshay Kumar Main Khiladi Tu Anari also stars Saif Ali Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Raageshwari. Akshay played the role of an inspector who seeks revenge for the death of his brother. Unfortunately, he also has to deal with actor, played by Saif Ali Khan, who wishes to add realism to his onscreen role by observing him. This 1994 release was directed by Sameer Malkan.

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996)

The movie was a big hit at the box office and starred Rekha, Raveena Tandon and Gulshan Grover. Veteran actor Rekha had played the role of a villain for which she had won Filmfare for Best Supporting Actress. The movie also had quite a bold scene between Rekha and Akshay Kumar. There was reportedly news of Rekha and Akshay dating during filming. Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi is also the first movie to use WWE wrestlers.

Mr and Mrs Khiladi (1997)

Although this movie also belonged to Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi series, it was a rather funny movie. Directed by David Dhawan, the movie starred Juhi Chawla and Paresh Rawal besides Akshay. The story revolves around a man who must impress a wealthy man to marry his daughter and the events that follow. The movie was reportedly Akshay’s first collaboration with both Juhi Chawla and David Dhawan.

Sangharsh (1999)

The movie stars Preity Zinta and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles where they play a CBI Officer and a Professor respectively. Alia Bhatt made a special appearance in the movie playing a younger version of Preity’s role. Sangharsh reportedly had quite a turmoil with its lead cast. Ajay Devgn and later Shah Rukh Khan was offered the lead role but both refused the part. Even Karisma Kapoor was approached for the film before Preity but the actor had reportedly denied the role. Sangharsh is the Hindi remake of the Hollywood movie, Silence of the Lambs starring Anthony Hopkins.

Mohra (1994)

Mohra was reportedly one of the biggest commercial hits. Directed by Rajiv Rai, this film has everything a masala entertainer needs. Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty are in the lead roles along with Raveena Tandon and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles. Also, who can forget the scintillating performance by Raveena Tandon in the song Tip Tip Barsa Paani? The iconic yellow saree, Naseeruddin's menacing looks, and Akshay's action made this film an out-and-out success.
